Sudden Stoppage Process
When an aircraft engine experiences a propeller strike, it's crucial to have it thoroughly inspected and serviced at an aircraft engine overhaul shop. Here's what typically happens during prop strike service at our facility.
Initial Assessment: The engine is inspected to assess the extent of the damage caused by the propeller strike. This assessment involves disassembling the engine to thoroughly inspect internal components for any signs of damage.
Detailed Inspection: Technicians carefully examine critical components such as the crankshaft, camshaft, connecting rods, bearings, and other internal parts for any signs of stress, cracks, or damage. Propeller strikes can cause internal shock loads that may not be immediately visible, necessitating a meticulous inspection.
Disassembly & Parts Inspection: After disassembly, all major parts are entrusted to Top End engine component machine shops for NDT testing & repair.
Component Repair or Replacement: Components that do not meet the required standards are repaired or replaced.
Reassembly: After necessary repairs or replacements, the engine is reassembled following manufacturer specifications and procedures.
Testing: Once reassembled, the engine undergoes rigorous testing procedures to ensure its performance, reliability, and compliance with safety standards.
Documentation and Certification: After successful testing and inspection, all inspected and/or overhauled parts will be accompanied by an 8130 - a certification for airworthiness and a detailed logbook entry.
